Google is bringing a lot of changes to all its products. Now its the time for Gmail chat to get a new feature. This is the feature I was actually looking for from a very long time. Google had launched a new voice and video right inside Gmail. So instead of downloading and installing heavy applications you can have a video chat with your friends and family with a small plugin – Gmail voice and video chat Plugin.
All you have to do is
- Download and install the Gmail voice and video chat plug-in.
- Sign in to your Gmail account.
- In the Chat section of your Gmail, select the contact you want to make a voice chat.
If your friend have a camera icon next to their name, you can make a voice or video call to them. You can also have a 1-way video call if they do not have a webcam.
Gmail’s voice and video plugin is designed using open communication features such as XMPP, RTP, and H.264. This will help the third party applications and networks to interoperate with Gmail voice and video chat. While chatting you can click the “pop-out” icon to make the video larger.
(I had even seen that Google is helping people to buy a webcam. They worked with Logitech and Buy.com to offer high quality cameras at up to 30% off with free shipping until November 30th, 2008.)
