If you are a big Iphone fan then you should try out the LG KM900 Arena. This smart phone is set to give the iphone a run for its money. The KM900 has a 3 inch WVGA screen with a video call camera at the top and 3 touch buttons at the bottom. A brushed silver screen runs around the screen along with a shiny silver border. The rest of the body us made of silver white plastic.
The left panel has the charger cum USB slot and thanks to the sliding cover it saves a lot of effort of digging our nails into the USB Slot just to uncover it. On the right are the volume and camera keys. The 3.5 mm jack at the top is a welcome addition. The phone has minimalist style and with its smart and sleek looks its bound to make heads turn.
Touch Of Class
One of the most significant highlight of the LG KM900 Arena is the S-class UI developed by LG. The underlying principle of the interface is the cube and it can be easily called as one of the smoothest UIs ever seen on a touchscreen phone. The screen responds well to the fingers and all the graphic transitions like revolving of the cube, etc goes through without any hitch. The phone has got four homescreens, each of these can be accessed by just swinging a finger accross the screen. These screens have been divided into four segments : shortcut, widgets, contacts and multimedia.
Needless to say, one can add and delete functions on all screens by simple dragging and dropping them A small cuboid button at the bottom of the screen (between the calling keys) lets the users see the cuboid structure. The shortcuts can be arranged as a grid or a roller.
Irrespective of which screen users are on, the four functions : dial-pad, contacts, messaging and menu, are always available at the bottom. Accessing the menu us even more easier. Small menu graphics reminded me of the Iphone’s but the 4×4 menu grid is a delight for the eyes and uses can slide through four segments namely : comunications, multimedia, utilities and settings to access more features. Users can experience real grandeur in the landscape mode, as all shortcuts are visible on the screen as small icons. However, only two applications can be run at a time. The alphanumeric keypad is convenient, but the QWERTY keyword is a bit dissapointing because of its small keys.
The LG KM900 Arena will surely remind you of the Iphone but is does not has many of the drawbacks which the Iphone has. The KM900 is loaded with a no. of multimedia features. The 5.0 Megapixel camera with LED flash clicks good pictures. The highest resolution can be set to 2560 x 1920 pixel. The camera is packed with features such as the image stabiliser, countinous shot (burst mode), self timer, face tracking, geo tagging etc. Though the LED flash is not of much help and a Xenon flash would have been just perfect.
The camera interface is a very interesting one. Rotating dial with options for each feature displayed on the right. The highest resolution of the video can be set at 720×480 DL. The quality of videos is pleasing but they are saved in 3GP format. The flash can also be used in video mode.
Another very impressive feature of the KM900 Arena is its amazing sound quality, truely LG like. Music feature includes a Music Player and an FM radio. The phone gives good sound specially through the headphones. Songs can be sorted on the basis of album, artists and genre. The phone comes with a no. of equilizer presets and as well as the Dolby Mobile that enhances the sound quality to a great extent. The FM radio comes with RDS support.
Internet browsing on the LG KM900 Arena is very good, much like the Iphone, one can zoom in and out using the usual finger swipes. It has a document viewer to open the attachments. The phone has got WiFi capability and also comes in with a built in GPS receiver. The accelerometer lets one use the phone in landscape and potrait modes.
The phone comes with Motion Censor gaming for your entertainment requirements.

Closing Comments And Alternatives :
The 1000 mAh battery gives a great performance and with contant music and calling it lasted around 22 hours or so. However, the headphones have limited functionality and can only be used for listening to calls and music. Despite the fact that there was a small clickable button, it was not able to end or receive calls through it.
The LG KM900 Arena costs around Rs. 24000 ($500 approx). Other alternatives include Samsung Pixon with an 8 MP camera and the Samsung F480.
